Superior Essex Communications, the leading manufacturer and supplier of communications cable in North America, is proud to announce that its Category 6+ Low-Smoke Halogen-Free (LSHF) cabling product was recognized among the best in the industry by the 2019 Cabling Installation & Maintenance Innovators Awards. The stellar, third-party judging panel included cabling and communications system specifiers, designers, integrators and managers with vast professional experience in the industry.
Superior Essex was recognized as a Gold honoree in the Connection & Cross Connection Devices category during an awards reception held on October 1 at the 2019 BICSI Fall Expo, as hosted at the Mandalay Bay Conference Center in Las Vegas, NV. “On behalf of the Cabling Installation & Maintenance Innovators Awards, I would like to congratulate Superior Essex on their Gold-level honoree status,” said Patrick McLaughlin, Chief Editor at Cabling Installation & Maintenance. “This competitive, unbiased program celebrates the most original and innovative products in the industry.”
The judges selected the Superior Essex CAT 6+ LSHF cable as an award-winner for numerous reasons. In terms of technical specifications, the cable’s CAT 6 compliance ensures it will support 1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet while easily surpassing the Grade 2 requirements specified in the ANSI/TIA/EIA-570-B Residential Telecommunications standard. Furthermore, in terms of sustainability, the product proudly features a Health Product Declaration (HPD); contributes toward LEED, WELL and Living Building Challenge certification; and is Red List Free certified – meaning that none of the 800 most-harmful chemicals to humans are included in its composition or manufacturing.
“Superior Essex is committed to designing and developing cable products that are not only futureproof but that also contribute to a more sustainable future,” said Annie Bevan, Global Head of Sustainability at Superior Essex. “And we are immensely honored to have our CAT 6+ LSHF cable recognized for its contributions to both of these efforts. It’s a shining example of our product breadth, innovation and sustainability leadership in an ever-evolving communications marketplace.”
The company won this award for its innovative work on the Arch Nexus architecture design firm’s office in Sacramento, CA. Arch Nexus was seeking a Living Building Challenge certification for retrofitting an existing warehouse and transforming it into its newest office, and they relied on environmentally conscious Superior Essex CAT 6+ LSHF cable as the backbone of their communications systems. And today, Arch Nexus’ Sacramento office is now the first Living Building Challenge project in the world that is an adaptive reuse of an existing building, one that now generates more power than it expends.
Throughout the 2019 BICSI Fall Expo, visitors to the Superior Essex booth also had the opportunity to learn about the company’s Sustainable Intelligent Building experience and its numerous, industry-leading sustainability efforts. These include Superior Essex being one of only nine companies in the world to be certified as truly Zero Waste to Landfill; the only cable manufacturer with certified Red List Free products; and the first cable manufacturer with products that contribute points toward LEED® certification, the WELL Building Standard and the Living Product Challenge.
